Chiang Mai University (CMU) is providing an exceptional opportunity with 200 Full Graduate Level Scholarships available annually. This opportunity is open to both Thai and international citizens who demonstrate high potential and meet our specified requirements.
For the 2024 academic year, the scholarship application process will consist of two regular rounds corresponding to the opening for admission to the first semester of the academic year 2024. However, for those interested in commencing their studies in the second semester of 2024, it is advised to reach out directly to the Program Administrative Committee Chair. This allows applicants to explore research topics, find a suitable Thesis Advisor, and apply for the scholarship in advance.

Scholarship Coverage:
Scholarship payment will be made via the bank account after all documents are approved and
the contract is duly signed.
- Tuition Fee: paid according to the actual fees on each program (will be paid directly to the Finance Division, Office of the University)
- Life, Accident and Health Insurance: THB 3,000 per year (will be paid directly to the insurance company)
- Books and Stationery paid in lump sum, THB 3,000 per semester.
- Living Allowance (Food, Accommodation, Local Travelling): THB 12,000 per month while staying in Thailand.
- Settlement Allowance: THB 6,000 on arrival
- Thesis Publication Allowance: paid in lump sum, THB 6,000 (once when the manuscript has been accepted to publish)
- Air Fare or any other travel expenses from hometown/ city/ country to CMU, and from CMU to hometown/ city/ country: as per actual cost with a maximum of THB 15,000 per trip (once for arrival and once for departure, reimbursement is based on actual receipts).
Note:
Living allowance will receive while residing in Thailand only, except for the case of leaving
the country for research purposes by approval on a case-by-case.
In case the scholarship grantees cannot enter Thailand before the semester starts, the
scholarship grantees can still study the course online but will not receive the living allowance. The
living allowance will be paid from the time of arrival in Thailand onwards but not exceeding the
normal study period.

Qualification for Scholarship Candidates
- Applicants must apply for the doctoral or master's degree program in the regular curriculum (not part-time) and must be working on a master’s thesis or dissertation (doctoral thesis) during the 2024 academic year.
- Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent, will refer from the website https://www.scholaro.com. If the applicant has completed a master's degree program exclusively focused on a thesis, they are required to have either published commendable research in reputable journals such as ISI, SCOPUS, IEEE, PubMed, or other international publishers accepted by Chiang Mai University.
- Applicants must submit an English proficiency test score, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or CMU-eTEGS, that is valid within the last two years. The minimum acceptable scores are IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 213 (CBT) or 79 (IBT), and CMU-eTEGS 70, except for applicants who are Native English Speakers from the countries listed below based on https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/international/english-speaking-countries.
Required Documents
- A copy of the bachelor’s degree transcript and/or a copy of master’s degree transcript (if applicable). Doctoral degree applicants who finished or are studying a master’s degree program with thesis only shall provide the publication(s) and/or progress report of their master’s thesis.
- Certificate of English Language Proficiency dated within the last 2 years: IELTS or IELTS Indicator score of 6.0, TOEFL score of 213 (CBT) or 79 (IBT) or CMU-eTEGs score of 70.
- Research Plan provides a description, about 2- 5 pages, explaining the research plans at Chiang Mai University. The scholarship is intended for original and publishable research (not for the compilation of textbooks or the writing of general surveys in the field that is studied. If possible, the applicant should contact in advance a professor at CMU in the field of intended to study to initiate the research plan together)
- Two recommendation letters, one of which must be from the current or latest applicant’s major advisor and the other should be from the person most familiar with his/her scholarly work (recommendations will receive a stronger consideration if they are from a professor at CMU who is expected to be his/her dissertation advisor).
