Selection Process

Regulations
- The Scholarship will be known as the University of Auckland ASEAN High Achievers Scholarship.
- Up to 30 Scholarships will be awarded annually and will comprise a contribution towards compulsory tuition fees of up to $10,000 each (see Note I).
- To be eligible for Scholarship consideration, an applicant must be i) an international student from an ASEAN country (see Notes II to III), ii) either a new student who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission, or an English Language Academy (ELA) student who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission, or a student enrolled, or enrolling, in the Summer Start International programme who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission, and iii) enrolled or enrolling full-time in either a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) or masters degree, (see Note V), or an undergraduate degree (applying with overseas secondary or post-secondary qualifications) at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. A grade point equivalent (GPE) of at least 6.00 is required for Scholarship consideration (see Note VI).
- The basis of selection will be academic merit (see Note VI), the quality of the letter of application and endorsement by the applicant’s referee. The Selection Committee may also consider how the country of origin of the applicant and/or the intended programme of study aligns with the University’s strategic aims.
- The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Deputy Vice Chancellor Strategic Engagement (or nominee), the Director of the International Office (or nominee), and two faculty representatives from the International Committee.
- Applicants who have been offered a Scholarship must accept their offer by the date prescribed in the letter of award, otherwise the Scholarship offer will be forfeited.
- The Scholarship will be paid as a credit towards compulsory tuition fees in the first semester of study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland as soon as is practical after confirmation of the awardee’s enrolment (that is, after the final date on which a student may add or delete courses without incurring a late enrolment fee) (see Notes I and VI).
- To be paid the Scholarship, awardees must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree, a PGDip or masters programme (see Note IV).
- As a condition of tenure, awardees will be required to enrol full-time for at least two semesters of study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland (see Note VIII).
- The Scholarship may not be held concurrently with a University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship or a University of Auckland International Business Masters Scholarship. However, the Scholarship may be held concurrently with any other scholarship, grant or award as long as the regulations for that scholarship, award or grant permit and the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves. It is the responsibility of the awardee to declare to the Scholarships Office all other scholarships, awards or grant funding received and for which the awardee receives payment while also in payment for this Scholarship.
- The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if it is determined that there are no candidates that meet the criteria and/or no candidates of sufficient merit.
- The University of Auckland Council can amend or vary these Regulations, provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.
- Applications close with the Scholarships Office on 21 November in the year preceding the award and 18 April in the year of the award.
- Notes [I]-[IX] below is deemed to be regulations.
